What is cloudification?

Cloudification– There has been a lot of buzz all around in the IT world regarding the term. This is quite similar to cloud computing. Let us know more about it.

Cloudification is basically a term given to the process of transferring or migrating data, computer applications or programs to the web-based cloud services. This is quite often related to Cloud Computing. This is an attempt made by companies to bring the cloud services within the reach of the masses. Cloudification can also be known as a method of moving any service to the internet i.e. the cloud.

“Cloudification” usually means that the traditional applications are transported from the local installations from the users’ local systems to the Cloud based services or its web equivalents. These cloud-based programs might often require an internet connection to run and execute. Some might even work offline if necessary.

What is cloud computing?

Cloud Computing is the foundation for the Cloudification procedure. It is the use of services that are made available on the internet for storing data and running software programs. Cloud computing could replace many of the on-premise applications that are running on the users’ local machine. Cloud computing is a system model. It provides the customer the base to store services on the internet on a temporary basis. ‘Cloudification’ has transformed the way to obtain and access services. Individuals and the businesses of all sizes, are becoming fond of cloud services.

Why is cloudification essential?

According to the National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST), Cloud computing needs to have the five basic characteristics as follows:

  1. On-demand Self-services: Once the cloud is integrated with the on-premise environment, these services could be upgraded or degraded as per the requirement of the services kept in the cloud. This process does not even need the interference of the cloud service provider.
  2. Resource Pooling: The cloud-based models are flexible. This means that there are always some shared resources available in the cloud to gain access to whenever needed.
  3. Broad network access: The cloud services can be accessed from any device, at any time. This was not possible with the private connections or the on-premises devices.
  4. Measured Solutions: The Cloud services also have a systematic scheme for payment. The users’ need to pay only the price for the resources that they are using. This prevents the users’ from paying for the “dormant” resources of the infrastructure.
  5. Rapid Elasticity: This means that the capacity for each service could be expanded or restricted based on the requirements.

Classification of the Cloud Services

There are three categories of Cloud Services. It is very important to determine the type of service that you need to use. The three categories are:

  1. SaaS: These are virtual applications
  2. PaaS: Virtual environment or platform that allows the users to develop applications and services over the internet.
  3. IaaS: Virtualized computers and computing resources hosted in the cloud and made available to the users for their use.

Important features of cloud Computing

Most companies or organizations have to deal with the IaaS. The most important feature Cloud computing is its flexibility. Cloud also provides the “operational agility”, i.e. expansion facility. Another good feature is that that the cloud services provide customers with features of Disaster management or disaster Recovery. The cloud provides the person with the inbuilt backup and recovery system to avoid significant data loss. Another factor is its 24/7 duty for providing with constant monitoring and support. All the above factors of are good but the greatest factor is perhaps the cost factor of the companies. This is one of the major intimidating queries for switching from the on-premises to the cloud. The initial value required might feel like to a huge rush with a lot of money investment, but this is totally worth the shot since the price to be paid reduces over time.
