Google Bard the ChatGPT rival unveiled: How Bard works and how to access it

February 7, 2023 by Deepak Thakur 1 Comment

Google Bard

Google Bard: Google has introduced Bard, a new chatbot that uses Google’s own language model called LaMDA. This announcement came after the CEO spoke about it in a company meeting. People liked ChatGPT, another chatbot, so much that Google thought it was important. Now, Google is allowing a few trusted people to try Bard before it becomes available for everyone. ChatGPT can already be tested by anyone and has become very popular, with 100 million users in just two months.

What is Google Bard? How does it work?

Google Bard is a computer program that can talk to you and answer questions. It uses information from the internet to give good answers. Bard is powered by a computer system called LaMDA that was made by Google. ChatGPT is another program like Bard, but it uses a different computer system. Both Bard and ChatGPT use something called Transformer, which is a type of computer program that helps chatbots understand what people are saying. Transformer was invented by Google in 2017.

How to access Bard?

Right now, only a few special people can try Google Bard. Google is going to let more people test it soon, but they are starting with a simpler version of the program that uses less computer power. This will allow Google to see what people think and make improvements.

Getting feedback about Google Bard is important for the company. They made LaMDA, which powers Bard, in 2021. But, someone who used to work at Google said that LaMDA sometimes gave answers that were racist or sexist. They also said that LaMDA was like a living thing. This is why feedback is important so that Google can fix any problems and make Bard better.

Like Bard, ChatGPT sometimes gives wrong answers. But, the people who made ChatGPT say that they will keep making it better. A recent report said that LaMDA, which powers Bard, is also improving and it sometimes gives better answers than ChatGPT.

It’s not specified why Google took longer to release Bard, its chatbot similar to ChatGPT

Google had been developing its language model, which powers Bard, for some time. But they stopped their plans to release it to the public after a former employee made some accusations. The CEO of Google said during a company meeting that people are excited about AI like ChatGPT and that they will be careful about how they use AI.

Yes, besides Bard, Google is working to make their search engine better by using AI technology. The post notes:

“Soon, you’ll see AI-powered features in Search that distill complex information and multiple perspectives into easy-to-digest formats, so you can quickly understand the big picture and learn more from the web: whether that’s seeking out additional perspectives, like blogs from people who play both piano and guitar, or going deeper on a related topic, like steps to get started as a beginner.”

Yes, that’s correct. In 2018, Google became one of the first big companies to make a set of rules for how they will use AI. These rules are called the AI Principles.
