OPPO Reno 2 launched in India with 20X zoom and Quad Camera

August 28, 2019 by Deepak Thakur 2 Comments

OPPO Reno 2

OPPO Reno 2 launched in India- Earlier this year, OPPO introduced the Reno series smartphones, which included the Reno 10x Zoom- the Reno 5G, and the regular Reno. Recently, the company launched the Reno Z. Today, OPPO has announced a follow-up to the Reno series, which is simply called Reno2. The announcement is only for India so far.

The OPPO introduces three new devices of Reno series- the Reno2, Reno2 Z, and Reno2 F – which target different price points. The company did not introduce a successor to the Reno 10x Zoom, though it might be coming at a later date.

Reno2 is the most powerful smartphone announced today, which is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730G, a gaming-oriented mid-range chipset that should be noticeably better than the Snapdragon 710 in the original Reno. It has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There is a 6.55-inch AMOLED display on the front with a screen-to-body ratio of 93.1%.

The main highlight of this device is its camera and design. It has a quad-camera setup on the back, starting with the standard 48MP sensor from Sony, backed by a 13MP telephoto lens for 5x hybrid zoom, an 8MP wide-angle camera, and a 2MP monochrome lens to help with portrait shots. It also has an Ultra Dark Mode for extreme low-light shots and 5x hybrid zoom for both photos and videos, and it has an “audio zoom” feature that increases volume for a specific object as you zoom in on it. The front-facing camera is 16MP and is still housed in the shark-fin camera and now features a live bokeh effect for video for the first time in a smartphone.

Talking about the design, OPPO has taken a similar approach to the original Reno phones, but there’s a noticeably different aesthetic around the edges of the back panel, which shine in a bright color, while the rest of the panel looks black.

Reno2 Z is into the midrange, which is powered by the same MediaTek Helio P90 as the current Reno Z. Like the regular Reno2, it also has up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, an upgrade over the current-generation Reno Z. The display is slightly smaller at 6.53 inches, but the screen-to-body ratio is just 91.6%, so there will be a bit more bezel.

It also has quad cameras, but it ditches the telephoto lens for a depth sensor to help with portrait mode. The 16MP front-facing camera is also motorized now, but it has a rising mechanism, similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro, and it supports the video bokeh effect just like the more powerful sibling.

OPPO Reno2 F

The OPPO Reno2 F is of lowest range, which is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P70, an octa-core chipset with speeds up to 2.1GHz. The SoC is backed by up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The display is the same as Reno2 Z.

The Reno2 F has the same rear camera setup as the Reno2 Z, but the front-facing camera doesn’t have the video bokeh effect seen in the other two phones. OPPO also refers to it as having an Ultra Night Mode, rather than the Ultra Dark Mode in the Reno2 and Reno2 Z. Ultra Night Mode is how OPPO refers to the feature in the first-generation Reno series, so there might be a difference in how capable it is.

The devices have some things in common, including the 4000mAh battery, support for VOOC 3.0 charging, and the latest version of ColorOS, which will be bumped version 6.1, which adds some spam call alerts and other security features.
